Peter Crosby Shows Voters He’s Dedicated to Fixing the Issues They Care About Most in Debate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District

Peter Crosby showed he was a professional problem solver in his debate with Blake Moore at Utah State University, covering solutions he’ll champion on issues from the cost of living to preservation of the Great Salt Lake and the inefficiencies of our current Congress.

Peter Crosby routed incumbent Blake Moore in the debate for Utah’s Second Congressional District last night at Utah State University. Crosby spoke to the people of Northern Utah about the actions he will take once elected on the issues they care about most.

I have a moral obligation to my district before a political party, before anybody else, and I need to vote in a way that’s going to solve these problems.

Peter Crosby, on reining in inflation and strengthening the job market

Among the priorities Crosby laid out are reinvesting in federal housing affordability programs the Trump administration has disinvested in, investing in upgrading Utah’s aging water infrastructure, securing real funding for water rights to save the Great Salt Lake, tax code changes that close loopholes for corporations, securing a right to privacy for all citizens, legal and humane immigration policy, passing legislation ensuring local review and approval of data center development, ending the Trump administration’s tariffs and stopping the War in Iran.

We could vote to end the war in Iran. It would only take 1 or 2 Republicans to cross the aisle. The House is that close right now. We could vote to end a broad tariff regime. Again, it only takes 1 or 2 Republicans to cross the aisle and say, “I’m going to put the needs of my district before political party or loyalty to an executive.” It doesn’t take committee work. It just takes courage.

Peter Crosby

When asked about representing Northern Utah’s diverse 2nd Congressional District, Crosby highlighted his thousands of conversations with voters across Northern Utah, emphasizing his focus on the concerns they raised directly to him.

I think the most important thing that I need to remember is first, do no harm and then second, help as many as I possibly can. And when I look at our existing policy right now — a policy that Mr. Moore has voted six times to maintain — tariffs are harming everybody: harming farmers or harming ranchers or harming small business owners, or they’re harming families.

Peter Crosby

When asked to respond on the topic of tariffs, Moore mentioned taking a private call from Proctor and Gamble to help solve their tariff challenges rather than mentioning any concrete action he’s taken to ease the pain for small businesses and working families. To which Crosby replied, “none of the small business owners seem to receive the same attention.”

In his almost six years in office, Blake Moore has supported bills that focus on special interests and has done little to counteract the work of the current administration — despite constituent concerns. His inaction was apparent in his talking points last night.

  • When asked about reliable affordable energy Moore side stepped by talking about unpassed legislation. He neglected to mention that the One Big Beautiful Bill — which he voted for — phased out tax credits for industrial and residential solar projects.
  • When asked about how he could help the unaffordability crisis facing young people Moore again touted a piece of legislation that hasn’t left committee and another that passed which critics say could drive students away from affordable federal education loans and towards more expensive private loans.
  • Moore stood behind President Donald Trump for a photo op as he gutted protections for 90% of Utah’s beloved national monuments, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante. Moore later defended his presence at the signing, “I’m not in charge of leasing” the land.
  • Moore co-chairs the DOGE Caucus driving agency cuts, but admitted at his town hall that DOGE “didn’t consult” Congress.

Crosby closed with a clear vision.

There’s a vision of our country that’s different than the path that we’re headed down now. It is a country where the economy works for regular people, where we have access to things that we need, like health care and housing, where the Great Salt Lake is healthy, where our public lands are protected and available not just for our kids, but every future generation. And that’s a future that happens when we elect people who are transparent and honest in their dealings in government. That’s the future that we’re fighting for.

Peter Crosby

Independent polling from the Utah Debate Commission showed Crosby, whose grassroots campaign has taken no funding from Corporate PACs, in striking distance of Moore.

Peter Crosby is the Democratic nominee for Utah’s U.S. Congressional District 2, a first-time political candidate, and a girl-dad. He is running a strictly clean-money, grassroots campaign: Peter is not accepting corporate PAC donations or funding from PACs aligned with foreign interests, and has raised over $125,000 from small-dollar and individual donors, with over 94% coming from right here in Utah. The campaign is fully volunteer-supported with over 400 registered campaign volunteers. Peter believes citizens of Northern Utah deserve a representative that lives in the district, listens to their concerns, and puts the people of Utah ahead of party or the pursuit of personal power. He is holding public town halls throughout the district, with at least one in Cache, Box Elder, Davis, and Weber counties each month. To learn more, visit petercrosbyforcongress.org.
